About EnviroFlex

Strong, durable, effective

EnviroFlex is a patented well screen with an integrated filter system, engineered to prevent silt or sand intrusion during operation and periods of inactivity. Designed for horizontal well and drainage applications, the screen is manufactured from high strength, chemically inert materials to withstand challenging installations in harsh chemical environments. EnviroFlex is an advanced laminate construction, with inner and outer layers of high density polyethylene (HDPE) surrounding a non-woven geotextile filtration layer. Flow channels are integrated into the HDPE layers and maximize the permeability of the screen by permitting water to drain across the entire surface of the geotextile.

EnviroFlex Applications

Horizontal Well Applications

EnviroFlex was designed for the rigors of horizontal well installation. Horizontal wells present multiple challenges for well screen installation. Pushing or pulling the screen into place subjects the pipe to high tensile stress. Bending the screen past curves in the bore path can break the slots, perforations, or rod-based frame in conventional wire-wrapped or slotted well screens. "Pre-packed" screens, with a sand pack captured between two conventional screens, are fragile, expensive, and heavy to install. Other filter screens require complex installation methods involving carrier casings.

EnviroFlex incorporates robust materials that withstand installation stresses at a much more economical price than the few available alternatives.

In the ground, EnviroFlex optimizes filtration to keep the well flowing. The minimum slot width available in conventional slotted plastic or steel screens is too wide to prevent fine sand or silt from entering the screen. The resulting siltation can hamper well performance and damage submersible pumps. The DuPontTM Typar(R) geotextile used in EnviroFlex excludes fine sand down to 100 mesh (US Sieve).

Trenched Drainage Applications

EnviroFlex is ideal in trenched drainage applications. Conventional French drains are built with a perforated pipe, bedded in gravel in an oversized trench that has been lined with geotextile. These drains work well when constructed properly, but can be difficult to build in soft or caving soil, and particularly when the trench intercepts a high groundwater table. The result can be contamination of the gravel with fine soil that can enter and plug the drain pipe. EnviroFlex screen, when used in a French drain, prevents blockage of the drain pipe and protects the internal geotextile from damage that can occur during placement.

EnviroFlex Specifications

Availability

EnviroFlex is available in standard 3"x4" (inside casing x outside casing) and 4"x6" configurations as a stocked item. The standard piping used is SDR-11 HDPE for the outer pipe, SCR-17 HDPE for the inner pipe, and DuPont Typar geosynthetic as the filter media. Custom configurations are also available on special order. In a custom configuration, the end user can specify inner and outer pipe diameters and materials (including HDPE, PVC, carbon or stainless steel) in various combinations. Alternate filter material may also be specified, including Apparent Opening Size (AOS - compared to US Sieve sizes) from 30 to 170.
